Hobart Champion™ Elite Welder 500562

The Hobart Champion Elite welder is now more quiet than previous models, yet still packs up to 225 amps of DC welding output. The Champion Elite is an 11,000 watt AC generator and DC stick welder that can weld up to 1/2" steel in a single pass.

The Hobart Champion™ Elite welder/generator is designed to be a jobsite workhorse. It features a rugged, fully enclosed case which provides a protective barrier and lowers noise. All receptacles on the ELITE feature push button reset circuit breakers. Auxiliary power while welding gives you the capability to run other equipment (lights, grinders) at the same time you are welding. With the quick set current control, it is easy to set up, provides smooth arc starts and maintains optimum arc characteristics

can you set up this machine for Tig, Mig ? Can you use a spool gun to weld Aluminum?
By Customer Service on April 15, 2013

    Answer:
The Hobart Champion Elite Welder 500557 is a constant current stick welder and is not a good choice for mig welding. It can be set up for DC only scratch start tig welding.. It cannot be set up for a spool gun to weld aluminum

Im looking to start a mobile welding business i already have a miller 211 welder with aluminum spool gun and normal mild steel and stainless set up. As well as a Thermal arc 201 tig welder. Im also looking at purchasing another stand alone tig welder that can do aluminum. Will this machine support all these through its 110/220 outlets?
By Customer Service on October 26, 2015

    Answer:
The Hobart Champion Elite Welder 500562 is capable of producing 9.5kw of continuous auxiliary power. Your Millermatic 211 requires 3 kw and the Thermal 201 requires 6 kw.You would have no problem running either of this units off the Champion Elite. You did not indicate what model or what size tig unit you are looking for but any model machine that requires less than 9.5 kw should run off the Champion

what size cable do I need for the Hobart champion elite welder
    ?
By Customer Service on January 5, 2016

    Answer:
The size of the weld cable needed for the Hobart Champion Elite Welder 500562 will depend on how far from the machine you will be welding. If you are going to be 50 ft or less from the machine you can use #2 cable like that in the Hobart Welding Cable Set - No. 2, 50 ft. 195195. If you are going to be 100ft from the machine you should consider using a 2/0 cable like that used in the Tweco Welding Cable Set - 2/0, 50 ft..

do you need to have the amperage set to a specific setting to run a larger 220 machine? today i tried running my lincoln powermig 256 and it didn't fair to well.
By Customer Service on August 17, 2016

    Answer:
Based on the spec chart for the Lincoln Powermig 256 this machine will draw approx 12000 watts. The Hobart Champion Elite Welder 500562 is only capable of 11000 watts peak and 9500 watts continuous and will not support the Powermig 256 if run at its rated output.

    I have two questions:

    1) one of the planned usages for this product is to power my workshop in the case of a power outage. My plan is to use a transfer switch, connected to the unit with a pigtail from the transfer switch with a plug on the end. Would the generator require rewiring to do this? Ive done some reading about neutral wire issues with other generators.

    2) is it possible to order the unit, say today, and have it delivered on 28 January?

Thanks, I do a good deal of welding and always have favored Hobart equipment.

By Customer Service on January 7, 2014

    Answer:
The Hobart Champion Elite Welder 500562 comes equipped with a 120/240 VAC, 50 A
(NEMA 14-50) receptacle.. This should provide you with all you will need.. You may need to purchase a Full KVA Plug Kit 119172 if you want to disconnect from the machine using a plug connection..

If you need delivery on a specific date it is best to wait to order until you are closer to that date

By Customer Service on June 14, 2013

    Answer:
The Hobart Champion Elite Welder 500557 is capable of producing 9500 watts of power and should be able to run a welder of the size of your Lincoln 180t without any problem.. The power input plug on your welder should be a 6-50p style in order to plug the machine into the 230 volt receptacle on the front of the Champion

By Customer Service on December 1, 2014

Great service and a great price
    September 28, 2016
I purchased the machine for tree service machine repairs, it came with in a week in perfect condition. The shipping company will call you and set up a delivery time or you can go to a hub and pick the machine up. All I had to do was fill the machine with gas, install the exhaust tip and connect the negative battery cable. It fired right up! Unfortunately I haven't had time to burn some rods yet but overall I'm extremely happy. I purchased 100 ft 2/0 cables with plans of buying more leads in the future ($300) and 200 amp stinger, 300 amp ground clamp, 6 connectors and two lugs ($150). As a professional pressure vessel builder metal fabricator I chose this machine because of it's price, 6-50R plug (plug plasma cutter, inverter tig directly into machine) and ability to provide 9500 watts of power, some machines are split bank providing 4000 watts for 220v/110v plugs and 5500 watts for welding. This is great for a job site when you want a constant weld amp but for my side work needs I wanted the ability to run any other electronic equipment off the generator.
    Pros:
Price and value (made by miller)
    Cons:
Constant current not constant voltage. This simply means you can't plug a mig spool gun into the machine.

    Affordable Quality
    January 30, 2014
I purchased this as an upgrade to my other gas driven 1971 Hobart unit with a smaller generator. The GFCI outlet indicated it was defective out of the box, but Customer Service had one delivered in a couple days-the alternative was to return it or ship it to a repair facility. I have owned this product over a year with no problems and it is much nicer and quieter to weld with than my older 42 year old unit. The unit has a fast response time. I waited for the EPA certified unit which seals the tank and keeps your fuel good for longer periods. As a standby generator, I recently tested the generator at full load at my farthest receptacle and the hertz and voltage was right on the money. This Hobart was substantially cheaper than the competitor (who actually makes this unit) and the extra money, to me, was worth the welding capability and the HD engine over a generator only unit. Many engines on generator only and smaller units do not have cast iron sleeves or HD engines, so your life expectancy is limited. I believe this unit will go the distance and I too can pass the unit on to my next generation.
    Pros:
Quality, Service, EPA Certified, Price, Looks, Kohler Engine, Engine Meter, Enclosure, AC and DC Welds
