I'm a novice autobody MIG welder and first time user of auto-darkening technology. After researching multiple welding helmets at various websites and reading their reviews, I bought this welding helmet because of its high reviews, Hobart brand name, and most importantly, for its very fast reaction darkening time. I was impressed with it's viewing and configuration controls, especially the time-delay adjustment after a weld is completed. Another reason for buying this one was it didn't have the external darkening adjustment knob, so you don't have to worry about bumping the helmet in confined spaces and having the adjustment knob potentially move to a lower darkening setting and increase your risk of eye injury. Like other reviews noted, the helmet is a bit flimsy, and I noticed that there was a little more peripheral exposure on the sides of the helmet when welding, compared to my existing helmet. It's also a bit tricky to get to the batteries. There's a rubber seal around the window unit that you have to remove to get access to the two batteries. You just need to be careful in removing it as it is a pretty snug fit. I like the low battery warning sensor too. Overall, I very pleased with this helmet.
ProsOne of the fastest, auto-darkening reaction times. Low battery sensor. Post weld, time-delay adjustment. Comfortable fit. You can wear a baseball cap backwards and still fit the helmet comfortably. Adequate space for wearing glasses too.
ConsA bit flimsy when handling and fitting it. Little more peripheral exposure on the sides of the helmet when welding.
