What type of brazing rods are suitable for HVAC applications? (I already have 15% silver/copper brazing rods.)
If you have 15% silver brazing rods you pretty much have most HVAC applications covered.. There are less costly brazing alloys you can use however they do not provide the application coverage of the 15%.. You can use Harris 0 Phos Copper Brazing Rod 0620F1. The Harris 0® is a low cost alloy suitable for most copper to copper or brass joints where good fit-up exists, and the assemblies are not subject to excessive vibration nor movement. You can also use Harris Stay-Silv 5 - 5% Silver Brazing Rod 5620F1. Stay-Silv® 5 is well suited where close fit-up cannot be maintained. Stay-Silv® 5 is somewhat more ductile than Harris 0 ans is less expensive than the 15%

What is the difference between the 503 and the504? Thank you plumber usually sweating 1/2to 1. 1/2 type L copper what do you think would be best. Also melt lead into ladle for joints .
The 503 has a finer flame and is suitable for soft soldering 1/8" to 2" tubing. The 504 might be better for melting lead, but the flame is a little too large for doing 1/2" tubing all day.

I replaced a nearly new Bernzomatic TS8000 that began leaking Mapp gas out of the pressure relief vent (never dropped). Turbo Torch seems very well made and flawless operation so far.

This is the third Turbo Torch I have. Considering I am a professional HVACR Mechanic and my first Turbo was twenty years ago, that is good service. This has controlled heat for everything two inches down to capillary tubes. Silver soldering is the best, with the clean burn there is no smoky mess to clean up like with acetylene. It always lights and flame control is perfect. If the first one had not taken so many ladder falls I'm sure it would be still working. Having both tips is great to really get the right flame for the right job. I only use quality MAPP gas, it is cleaner than propane and the heat is there when you need it.
