Is the coating enough to keep the fiberglass intact and not stick to you like fiberglass insulation or fly around in the air?
The coating on the Tillman Welding Blanket - Medium Duty Coated Fiberglass 590 totally covers the fiberglass. Unless the coating is abraded away or the blanket is cut you will not feel or see the fiberglass fibers

If I wanted to, could I use this as a welding screen instead of the vinyl welding screens being sold? I guess the vinyl screens are a lot lighter?
You could use the Tillman Welding Blanket - Medium Duty Coated Fiberglass 590 as a welding screen. Most welding screens are a transparent vinyl for visibility. You will not have this capability if you use the welding blanket as a screen

Makes an Excellent Curtain

I work in my garage quite a bit and weld a lot of stuff for myself and family members as well as friends. This obviously saves lots of money, but I need something to protect other stuff in the garage while welding and torching. This is perfect.

Money well spent

I'm a novice welder, and I usually just jump in and do things. Well I've been burnt enough by splatter to finally say (Wait a minute) this is enough. I used this blanket to cover my legs while welding under the car and now there's no more unexpected holes in my pants or burns in my leg, not to mention there are a lot more uses for protecting other areas in the garage.
ProsGood quality
ConsSomewhat heavy and stiff.

I have used a couple of times in the garage doing body work on an interior, works fine, a little stiff being new but I am sure it will break in.
