Hobart® Handler® 140 MIG Welder 500559

The Hobart® Handler® 140 MIG welder has been upgraded with new features normally found in much more expensive welders. The Handler 140's wire drive motor is now made out of cast aluminum, not plastic, providing smooth, industrial grade wire feeding. Voltage control has been upgraded from 4 taps to 5, giving the operator greater voltage control for more precise welding arc control. The new heavy duty steel ground clamp is an upgrade over the lighter copper ground clamp found in previous Handler® 140 models.

The Hobart Handler® 140 operates off 115 volt standard household current for maximum versatility and comes ready to weld with or without shielding gas, no additional kit required. With an amperage output range of 25 - 140, it easily handles a broad selection of solid mild steel or stainless, flux cored and aluminum wires.

  • MIG (GMAW)
  • Flux Cored (FCAW) (gas and self-shielded)

    Auto Body

  • Excellent Arc Performance: Stable arc with improved performance on thin gauge material!
  • Welds 24 gauge up to 3/16 inch in a single pass
  • Cast aluminum built-in wire feeder with quick-release drive roll lever
  • Built-in contactor eases use and is an excellent safety feature which makes wire electrically "cold" when not welding.
  • Five output voltage settings with wire feed tracking provide quick and easy adjustment for different materials and thickness.
  • Separate "purge" setting to purge gas line and set flow rate without wasting wire
  • Easy access to polarity changeover includes storage holes for spare tips
  • Heavy duty steel ground clamp
  • Dual groove drive rolls make it easy to switch between .023/.025 in. (0.6mm) and .030 - .035 in. (0.8 - 0.9 mm) wire
  • Self-resetting thermal overload and motor protection

    Comes complete with:
  • Hobart Handler® 140 MIG welder
  • Built-in gas valve
  • Regulator and gas hose
  • Comfortable 10 ft. H10 MIG welding gun
  • 10 ft. work lead with clamp
  • Power cord with plug
  • 8 in. wire spool adapter
  • Extra .030 in. (0.8mm) contact tips
  • 1 lb. spool of .030 in. (0.8mm) self-shielded flux cored welding wire
  • Weld set-up and parts information chart

Can this welder weld 3/8" thick steel?
    1 Answer
The Hobart Handler 140 is designed to weld up to 1/4" steel. Ultimately, you would be able to achieve 3/8" with multiple passes but we would not suggest using this welder if you will be doing 3/8" often.

I noticed it says FCAW, does that mean it can run dual shield as well? Thanks
    1 Answer
The Hobart Handler 140 MIG Welder 500559 will not run on dual shield. Hobart advises that its recommended for FCAW and GMAW welding processes.

Between the Hobart 140 and the Miller 141 what are the differences? And witch one is the best for welding auto bodies?
    1 Answer
The Hobart Handler 140 MIG Welder 500559 and the Millermatic 141 MIG Welder 907612 are very similar. They both run on 110 volt .They both have a max output of 140 amps. The mig guns are basically the same model and both models have cast aluminum wire drive systems. The biggest differences are in the weld output controls. Both units use an infinitely variable wire speed control. The Handler 140 has a five position tap switch for voltage control. The Millermatic 141 uses an infinitely variable voltage control. The infinitely variable voltage control allows for more precise control of weld output.. The Millermatic 141 also has a feature know as Auto Set. This feature automatically sets the correct wire feed speeds and voltage when using .030 and .024 wire. Both units will do a good job when welding auto bodies. The Miller because of has Auto Set and infinitely variable voltage control will provide a more precise control of weld output and will be a little better when trying to control heat input on thin body panels

Says it can weld up to 1/4 steel. Is that with flux core or solid wire.
    1 Answer
Hobart advises that the Hobart Handler 140 MIG Welder 500559 can weld 1/4 steel in one pass but only with flux cored wire..You would need to make multiple passes using solid wire

What are the differences in the Hobart Handler 140 MIG 500559 and the 500500?
    1 Answer
The Hobart Handler 140 MIG Welder 500559 is the new upgraded version of the HANDLER 140. The upgraded model now uses and aluminum wire drive feed system rather than the plastic drive system used in the previous model. the upgraded 140 now has a 5 step volage control switch rather than 4 on the older model and the upgraded model uses a steel ground clamp rather than a copper clamp

After being forced to use my bosses mickey mouse welder for a couple emergency repairs. I pulled the trigger on this hobart with solid metal wire feed. Why pay more? Some say you can turn a welder down but cant turn it up. Don't buy more welder than you need. I feel that 95 percent of hobbyists and mechanics will never need more.120 volt is very convenient. This welder saved me twice already on two of my personal vehicle exhausts. I would be 2 grand in the hole right now. Easy set up you will be up and welding with no hassle. I've used many welders including higher end 220 heavy duty and this machine is basically a scaled down miller 220v. Don't hesitate you wont be disappointed, awesome product and service from the ladies at Cyberweld!

    Awesome welder

I bought this welder about 6 months ago and am extremely pleased with it. I have done some light fab work building a cart for it and a few other good ideas that I needed in the garage. I have also done some auto body work for a friend and have found nothing to complain about with this machine. I prefer Lincoln .30 wire as it seems to burn better w/o any birdnests in the drive. Bottom line...you can't go wrong with this machine.

A Very Good Welder at a Very Good Price

I found Hobart Handler 140 Welders all over the web for this price, but they were all model 500500's, which is the old model. Cyber Weld is the only place on the web I found the 500559 ( this years model). I like Hobart Welders and also have the Hobart Champion Welder / Generator. In my humble opinion, Hobart gives you very good value for your money. Hobart is the only company that I have seen that gives you a graph of what voltages can be expected at what amperage. On my welder / generator they printed the generator voltage droop graph as the current went up, which allowed me to know exactly what to expect out of my generator. I feel like you are pretty safe buying Hobart.
