What are the main differences between the 200 and the 215?
1 Answer
The main differences between the Multimatic 200 and Multimatic 215 are as follows:
The Multimatic 200 is designed to be "portable" with a heavy duty case and shoulder strap. This machine will also provide better TIG control and lower amperage capability for thinner TIG welding. It also comes with a Bernard Q-150 MIG gun and original Miller foot contol.
The Multimatic 215 is more of your standard shop welder, not built to be safely traveled with like the Multimatic 200. Although, it is portable at only 38 lbs. You will also have better MIG control. The Multimatic 215 comes with an M-100 MIG gun and the newer Miller foot control which is a bit smaller than the original.
Neither the Multimatic 200 or Multimatic 215 have the ability to TIG weld aluminum but both can MIG aluminum with the use of a Spoolgun.

You cannot substitute a 15 ft mig gun for the 10 ft Q-150 mig gun that comes with the Miller Multimatic 200 Auto-Set Elite Welder 907518 . You can, however, purchase a 15 ft Miller M-150 mig gun #249041 ($163.99) or a 15 ft Miller M-25 mig gun #169598 ($269.05) to install on the Multimatic 200. What's the difference for a hobbiest welder between the multimatic 200 and a synco wave 210 with mig,tig and stick?
1 Answer
The Miller Multimatic 200 Auto-Set Elite Welder 907518 is basically a mig welder that can also be used for stick welding and DC tig welding. The Miller Syncrowave 210 TIG/MIG is really a tig/ stick welder that Miller has adapted a spoolgun to it allow it to do light mig welding. If you plan on doing alot of Mig welding then the Multimatic would be the way to go. If your are planning on doing alot of tig weld, especially aluminum, the the Sycrowave would be a better choice.

I bought this welder a few years ago without the tig kit. It has been a really great machine. I recently decided to start tig welding with it, and I have everything I need except I have one question... The smith regulator that came with the unit, is this ok to use with Argon gas for tig welding? The reason I ask is that when i look in the manual for the machine, it shows a drawing of the tig gas connection to the machine being done with a regulator that has a flow meter on it. Mine does not have a flow meter it seems.
Also I would like to know, if it IS ok to use the regulator that I already have, are there any advantages to using a regulator with a flow meter?
My primary use for this will be tig welding low pressure heat system piping (not sanitary grade)
1 Answer
The regulator that came with your Miller Multimatic 200 Auto-Set Elite Welder 907518 will work for tig welding.A regulator with a flow tube may be a little more accurate however it is not as durable

I am confused by the reply from Customer Service reference the $250 rebate. I read that the $250 rebate applies when you purchase just the Multimatic 200, with no additional accessories (Rebate machine only). And that the $500 rebate would apply if you made additional purchases equalling more than $500 (Rebate with additional purchases).
1 Answer
If you purchase just the Miller Multimatic 200 Auto-Set Elite Welder 907518 alone you will receive a $250.00 rebate check from Miller once you complete and submit the appropriate rebate form to Miller...
If you purchase a Miller Multimatic 200 and also purchase an additional $500.00 or more in Miller family accessories (Miller, Hobart,Weldcraft, Bernard,Smith products) Miller will send you a check for $500.00 once they receive a completed rebate form.. The accessories purchased must appear on the same order as the Multimatic..

My only concern with this welder is its durability especially when operated at full power for long periods. I know it has a 3 year warranty but I still recall enough folks at various venues having reliability issues.
1 Answer
We have discussed your concerns about the durability of the Miller Multimatic 200 Auto-Set Elite Welder 907518 with Miller Electric. They indicted that they did have a minor problem with some early production models but that issue has long since been addressed. The Multimatic 200, as with all welding machines, has a Duty Cycle rating..Duty Cycle is the number of minutes out of a 10 minute time period that a welding machine can be operated at maximum rated output. For example the Multimatic 200 has a 20 % duty cycle at it's rated output of 150 amps in the mig mode. This means that the unit can weld continuously for 2 minutes out every 10 minutes at 150 amps before it shuts down to protect itself from over heating. The Multimatic is capable of producing 200 amps max for mig welding. If you were to operate Multimatic at max output the duty cycle would be approximately 5% so it will shut down sooner to protect itself. As long as the Multimatic is used in the parameters that it was designed for you should have no problems

can you weld aluminum with the mig torch that comes with it or do i need to purchas a spoolgun.
1 Answer
You can weld aluminum with the Miller Multimatic 200 Auto-Set Elite Welder 907518 using the standard gun but is can be difficult and sometimes trying. The problem is the aluminum wire is soft and it does not want to feed thru the 10 ft length of the standard mig gun. It usually winds up bird nesting at the drive rolls or sometimes breaking off inside the gun. To make it work at all you would need to keep the mig gun as straight as possible and use an over sized contact tip.If you plan on welding aluminum on a regular basis it would be best to purchase the spool gun

what size and amp extension cord would I need to run this welder for 220v ?
1 Answer
If your going to run the Miller Multimatic 200 on 220 volt the .Direct Wire Extension Cord - 230 Volt , 25' or 50' 8/3. would be a good choice.. Your can find this on our site.. If you plan on running the Multimatic 200 on 110 volt your should look for a good quality cord that is made with a minimum of #12 wire but #10 wire would be better We do not have any 110 volt extension cords on the site
