Firepower® MST-200 Multiprocess Welder 1444-3200

Genuine Firepower® MST-200 is a 200 amp portable multiprocess welding package that performs MIG, Stick and DC TIG welding, and operates on either 120 volt or 230 volt input power. Weighing just 39 pounds, the MST-200 is lightweight but is capable of MIG welding 3/8" thick material in a single pass. Advanced functions like adjustable MIG wire run-in and burn back settings, Lift TIG with pre-flow and post-flow control, and stick hot starts with arc force control are all standard. Digital controls with digital meter make set up a breeze.. The MST-200 also comes spool gun ready, which means you can tackle aluminum MIG welding jobs with OPTIONAL Tweco® 160 amp spool gun.

The MST-200's true multi-process capabilities include lift arc DC TIG for the TIG welding of steel and stainless steel. For stick welding applications, it handles up to 5/32" diameter stick welding electrodes.

The MST-200 comes complete with digital meter, ten foot Tweco® Fusion® 180 MIG gun, Tweco® 17V TIG torch with 50 mm Dinse connector and TIG accessory kit, Victor® shielding gas flow regulator with hose, work cable with clamp, input power cable with 120V/230V adapter and ESAB's 3-year warranty.

      MST-200

      I was skeptical of this little unit due to the name on the side of it and the price tag. However, I was aware of the shared componentry with its owner company, ESAB, and due to the rebates being offered I was willing to take the financial gamble.

      The unit was ordered on a Friday afternoon and was delivered to my doorstep on Monday without incident. While that has nothing to do with the unit itself, it gave me some sense of confidence in Cyberweld, whom I had not purchased anything significant from previously.

      Upon taking delivery of the machine, I set the unit up - displacing my older ESAB machine on my welding cart which has held up fine over the years for my general shop use. The machine was relatively easy to assemble. The manual was straightforward enough and some previous experience with ESAB machines helped. I ran all three (3) processes - mig, tig, and stick. I experienced no issues with either. The tig torch that comes with the machine (Tweco sr17v) is a little bit clunky, so I elected to set that aside and use my existing CK17 (with gas valve). I should add, I have a SSC C850-0815X foot pedal and that worked as expected upon selecting the "remote" option in the Tig menus.

      All in all, the machine appears to be of good quality. Only time will tell how long it holds up so take this review with a grain of salt in that regards. With current rebates, I'm in the machine cost wise a little over $760. Compare that to the seemingly equivalent yellow machine (EMP210) and its…
