Looking at a first time auto darken helmet. I wear tri-focals and have trouble seeing the puddle good . How do I know what cheater lens to use, I see you have many diopter from 1.00 to 2.50. How do I know which one? thanks

Every ones eyes are different so there is no way to determine what power of magnification you would need. If you don't know what magnification you need we recommend that you go to your local pharmacy (CVS Rite Aid etc). They usually have a display of inexpensive reading glasses. Try some of these glasses on to see what power you need . These glasses are generally rated the same as the mag lenses. When trying the reading glasses on hold the glasses approximately an 1 to 1 1/2 inches away from your eyes to approximate where the mag lens would be mounted in your welding helmet.

The lens in the 3M Speedglas Welding Helmet - Black 100V Lens 07-0012-31BL will not fit in your 9000v helmet. You can install a 3M Speedglas 9002V Lens Assembly 04-0000-31 in your 9000v helmet but you may find the cost to do so prohibitive. A better choice may be purchase a completely new helmet.

    good helmet
I work in a metal fabrication shop and use this helmet almost every day. Only problem that I've found with it is that the tension knob works it's way loose after a couple of hours. Headgear on this helmet is reasonably comfortable. The helmet is super tough and flexible. It's been dropped and abused and all the plastic latches are still in place. Another welder I work with has an identical helmet and has had it for six years with only the headgear replaced. Overall it's an excellent helmet for everyday use as well as cheap enough for a beginner. Very satisfied
    ProsLight and reasonably priced

    Works Well
Been using this helmet since 2009. It is not used on a daily basis it is used on my ranch/farm. It serves my needs and would recommend. Battery last a long time which is not what i was expecting so that's good.

    Good enough for me
I'm no pro, but I weld quite a bit out in my workshop. Just got a TIG and my HF helmet would flicker when welding DC. I did try the trick of leaving it out in the sunlight, and that did seem to work, but I had already ordered this one and this one is clearer and darker anyways. The head gear is quite comfortable. The only complaint is it wants to flip down even though I have the knobs pretty tight.
ProsCan go pretty dark. Don't need to supplement with sunglasses. Works well with DC TIG.

Works well. Great for welding overhead. Hood is already down and can see right where to start welding.

    Well worth the money
I see some of the other reviews ripping on these hoods a little. I'm a professional custom fabricator and have been using two of these hoods for 4 years now. I originally bought 2 because I could get 2 for less than the price of 1 of the miller hoods(which I also own). These hoods are hands down the best bang for the buck. They could use an auto on feature but for the money... there's bigger battles to fight. These things are light, tough and always work. The sun doesn't set them off and they are very sensitive. I don't see what the fuss is about the head gear. It's a little different setup but I don't find myself constantly adjusting my hood either. Set it and forget it. For me its about value. And I certainly feel as though I have gotten my moneys worth and then some. Consumables are reasonably priced and durable. Readily available on this site even. Buy one. Money well spent. 15 yrs experience.
Prosdoes what its supposed to do. works every day. affordable. good lookin. multi gender.
Consat the price point I'm not willing to complain. the pro's far out weigh the cons

Works very well. Well constructed and comfortable. The headband is redesigned and is comfortable.
ProsPrice, also the 3M brand is trustworthy, very light.
ConsDoes not have an auto on function, only auto off after 1 hr since last arc struck. Need to buy special plates and covers since the lenses are concave. Only available from a 3M Speedglas dealer.

    Great Value
This is a 'basic' auto-darkening helmet. I got it for my nephew in welding school in the Philippines. For a basic helmet, this has all the features of my old 9000X - then top-of-the-line helmet, that I bought almost 15 years ago (and still working great, all I've done is change batteries and covers). This is a great value on a great helmet.
ProsALL the important features. GREAT price.

Very good beginner helmet. I have used the more expensive 9100 series and there is a definite difference in quality. This helmet is not as rugged but still good quality for the price. I still do plan to upgrade one day to the 9100 series.

    Speedglas welding helmet
This helmet is head and shoulders above what I was using. The controls are easy to access and work well. My only complaint, much like everyone elses, is the head band adjustment out and out sucks. Other than that, it's a decent helmet at an inexpensive price. Props to Cyberweld on the blistering fast shipping as well.

    Speedglas Helmet review
I'm not a professional welder. I replaced an older auto dimming helmet with this one because the old one didn't dim fast enough to prevent cumulative flash discomfort. The new 3M lens is much faster and there is no longer any problem. The selectable darkness and sensitivity is also great. I only have one negative comment. I think the helmet head size is tricky to adjust and seems cheap and fragile. My guess is that a more expensive helmet would be better in that regard. I bought it for the fast lens and I'm happy overall.
ProsFast dimming, adjustable darkness and sensitivity.

    great helment
Purchased after my Hobart failed. This helmet is used primarily for tig welding. After reviewing many manufacturers,I chose the 3m Speedglass due to its features. The price was very reasonable and my small business needs all the help I can get. Cyberweld has become my welding supplier of choice. Price, reasonable shipping, excellent selection. Need a great helmet with options at a great price...this is it!
