I'm a bit confused. I'm interested in your extension cord product Code: PC83EXT25 for use with my welder and other 220 volt power equipment. but the electrical couplers don't make sense to me. 8 gauge wire will support up to 50 amps of current but the extension cord ends as manufactured on this product look like they are only compatible with 15 or 20 amp 110 volt receptacles and not.30 tp 50 amp 220 volt receptacles. Can you shed any light on this quandary for me?
Thank you,
Bill
1 Answer
The Direct Wire Extension Cord - 230 Volt , 25' or 50' 8/3 is constructed of 3 conductor #8 power cable with a NEMA 6-50p plug on one end and a 6-50r receptacle on the other end. NEMA 6-50 plugs and receptacles are rated at 50 Amps and have a configuration similar to a standard NEMA 5-15 which is the standard 120 volt 15 amps style. The 6-50 however is considerably larger.

My question is somewhat generic. Why are all the 230v welders that I have seen, use the 2pole 3wire plugs and not the 3pole 4wire plug? Wouldn't using a NEUTRAL wire in the circuit be preferable to using the GROUND wire as the neutral? I realize they both end up at the same place, but there must be a reason the neutral wire is used for major appliances.
Thanks
Mike B

I'm considering buying a Miller Spectrum 375 X-TREME Plasma Cutter w/XT30 Torch 907529 from you guys. If I do, need a 25' or 50' extension cord to connect to the 240 volt source. Would this cord do the job? Also, what air filter do you recommend I put on my air compressor.
Tim
1 Answer
The Direct Wire Extension Cord - 230 Volt , 25' or 50' 8/3 would be a good choice for use with the Miller Spectrum 375 xtreme.. The Miller Plasma In-line Air Filter Kit 228926 will work fine with the 375 x treme.. If you are located in a very hot humid part of the country then you want to consider the Thermal Dynamics Plasma 2 Stage Air Filter Kit 9-9387 or the Miller Plasma RTI Filter/Air Dryer 300491
