Harris® .035 Diameter Silicon Bronze MIG Welding Wire - 2# Spool 00SIBF2

2 lb spool - Genuine Harris® .035 diameter Silicon Bronze MIG welding wire is a copper-silicon alloy used to weld similar copper alloy base metals, including brass, and to weld these alloys to steel. Silicon bronze is also frequently used in GMAW "brass welding" of coated sheet steels.

Preheat: Silicon bronze base metals generally do not require preheat. Brass or copper base metals may require some preheat depending on copper content and thickness.

Shielding Gas:
  • Argon 100%
  • Helium 75%/Argon 25%

      Mig brazing

Used EMT to build a blind on my duck boat. This wire did a nice job.

      MIG Braze electrical conduit

This works great for projects that can be constructed with EMT conduit. It tacks just like steel mig wire. Use 100% argon for shielding. A little sand paper and acetone wipe down. There is no problem with melt thru on the EMT. If your project will work with thin wall conduit go ahead and enjoy trouble free brazing on galvanized metal. Of course regular galvanized water pipe will work the same. I run a Fronius Transsteel 2200 at about 120 amps and 14 volts with .035 wire. Try a weld bead and tune the machine.

I have tried welding galvanized metal over years with stick and mig. I get poor quality welds. Very hard to get a good weld unless all of the galvanized metal is removed before mig welding. They rate the silicon bronze at 55,000 psi strength.

Silicon Bronze Brazing on Cast Iron (MIG)

This wire certainly behaves differently than steel wire. It doesn't melt the base metal, but bonds with it via capillary action. It takes a little getting used to, and will not lay down flat, but rather a domed or higher profile bead (MIG). I used it to braze a broken pot lid on cast iron, but there could be many uses for it. It does create a very strong bond, not welding, but brazing. I was trying to prevent cracking in the cast iron, so not having to melt the base metal yields a much more forgiving bond (and not initiate cracking in cast iron). I will practice with sheet metal, and you can join dissimilar metals. However, it will not result in the same tensile strength as fusion welding.

      DID THE JOB

Worked fine, hard to tell if it washes properly on the bottom, was running hot on some 11 gauge copper to HRS 1/2 " roundstock on top, had to go back and re -tig bout 7 joints outta 140, overall can get a nice stack appearance if weaved right.
