Tillman Reversible Back Hand Pad 556
1 Each - Tillman Reversible Back Hand Pad 556
The Tillman 556 reversible back-hand pad has Aluminized Carbon Kevlar® on both sides, giving you twice the heat shielding life of a standard back-hand pad. The 556 has a unique design that allows you to flip the leather/elastic glove straps to the other side, once one side wears out. The Tillman reversible back-had pad is to be worn over the back of a welding glove to provide extra-protection in high-heat situations.

It's pretty cool. I used it mainly on my Tillman blue stick gloves but have also used it on my Tillman mig gloves and it's a life saver. Although Don't touch the hot metal too much or else it can wear out and the fibers from the inside come out and stuff just like cotton. It is reversible though so that is a huge plus.

I've been using the 550 single-sided shield, and that worked except once in a while, depending on what I was doing, I'd start getting some real heat through that *and* the glove. Not painful or anything - more of an annoyance - and way better than just the glove itself. I went to order another one of those and saw this one - big difference! It's not only double-thickness, it's reversible so it should last longer too. Be aware that it *is* bulkier and doesn't conform to the curve of your hand as well - at least not initially - so if you use it make sure you're not going to hang the corner on something part-way through the weld.
Dropping one star to 4 because the corners are not rounded like the 550, so it's more apt to hang on things.

I bought one of these for class and have found it to be a big help when working close to the weld on Mig.
I like that you can use one side and flip it over to use the other if you burn up one side.

I gave it a 4star because of the price and the strap stitches. I had to re sew one strap and then super glued the rest. After that worked great. It has saved my glove fingers from getting hard and burnt.
