Miller Maxstar® 161 STH TIG Welder 907711

Miller Maxstar® 161 STH is a DC TIG/Stick welder that features pulsed TIG welding and is capable of up to 160 amps of welding output. It weighs only 13 pounds and operates on either 120 volt or 240 input power. The Maxstar 161 STH offers both Lift-Arc™ and High Frequency arc starts. Use Lift-Arc™ when TIG welding around electronic equipment (like computers and phone systems) that might be sensitive to high frequency interference. Use High Frequency arc starts to avoid surface contamination of the tungsten welding electrode.

The Maxstar 161 STH is capable of DC Puled TIG welding. Pulse range is adjustable from 0-150 Hz to allow precise control of heat and arc stability, especially on thin material. The 161 STH also offers superior stick arc performance, even when using E6010. It has Miller's Auto-Line™ technology that automatically adjusts for input voltages ranging from 120 volts to 240 volts without manual linking.

The Maxstar 161 STH comes with Miller's True Blue® 3 year warranty.

Process
  • DC TIG (GTAW)
  • DC Pulsed TIG (GTAW-P)
  • Stick (SMAW)

    Applications
    Process pipe
    Dairy industry
    Food/beverage industry
    Restaurant/kitchen repair
    Experimental aircraft
    Shipboard installation/repair
    Maintenance repair

    Features

  • Auto-Line™ - Allows for any input voltage hookup (120 - 240 V) with no manual linking, providing convenience in any job setting. Ideal solution for dirty or unreliable power.
  • Digital meter for more precise control when presetting or monitoring welding amperage.
  • DC Pulse TIG welding - Pulsing can increase puddle agitation, arc stability and travel speeds while reducing heat input and distortion.
  • Selectable trigger configuration allows the operator to choose standard or 2T trigger method to meet the application.
  • Lift-Arc™ provides TIG arc initiation without the use of high frequency.
  • High frequency for non-contact arc initiation that reduces tungsten and material contamination.
  • Pro-Set™ eliminates the guesswork when setting weld parameters. Use Pro-Set when you want the speed, convenience and confidence of preset controls. Simply select the feature and adjust until Pro-Set appears on the display.
  • Full function remote control capability for precise amperage control for critical welds on thin materials (6-pin fingertip or foot control available - sold separately.)
  • Built-in gas solenoid eliminates the need for a bulky torch with a gas valve.
  • Portable in the shop or at the job site - at 13.2 lb the shoulder strap allows the end user to easily move from location to location.
  • Fan-On-Demand™ - power source cooling system operates only when needed, reducing noise, energy use and the amount of contaminants pulled through the machine.
  • Thermal overload protection - helps prevent machine damage if the duty cycle is exceeded or airflow is blocked.
  • Single amperage range - allows operator to accurately set amperage on both 120 or 240 volt primary power.
  • Hot Start™ adaptive control - provides positive arc starts without sticking.
  • Low OCV stick is a simple design that reduces the open circuit voltage to 12 - 16 volts when the welding power source is not in use. This circuit design is now built into the Maxstar 161 S eliminating the need for add-on voltage reducers.
  • Power factor corrected (PFC) - for optimum performance especially on 120 volts - reduces nuisance breaker tripping.
  • Stick-Stuck detects if the electrode is stuck to the part and turns the welding output off to safely and easily remove the electrode. Menu selectable.
  • Superior stick arc performance even on the difficult-to-run electrodes like E6010.

NOTE: This is a DC welder ONLY. It CANNOT weld aluminum.

    Great machine

Great small suitcase sized welder. Still packs a punch on 240. Just wish it had post flow options but I will most likely just go with a manual gas valve torch.

Has become the go to welder and is a great teaching tool for the new guys.

It is versatile and can be taken as far as far as my 240v extension cord will go. It is small with simple controls that makes it easy to approach for the new guys.
