Harris ERCuSi-A Silicon Bronze MIG Welding is a copper-silicon alloy that is used to weld similar composition base metals, brass, and to weld these copper alloys to steel. Silicon bronze is also frequently used in GMAW “braze welding” of coated sheet steels.

Preheat: Silicon bronze base metals generally do not require preheat. Brass or copper base metals may require some preheat depending on copper content and thickness.

Shielding Gas:
  • Argon 100%
  • Helium 75%/Argon 25%

I need to weld a sculpture of 3/16" silicon bronze sheet and I have a Passport plus… what are the best settings for this wire so it will penetrate but not leave a big mess? I also have the Aluminum spool gun… should i use that? thanks!
We have reviewed your question with Miller regarding welding the 3 /16" thick silicon bronze with Harris Silicon Bronze MIG Welding Wire using a Miller Passport Plus.. Miller does not believe that this machine has enough power to weld this material properly. However if you want to try it you should use .030 wire with 100% argon for a shielding gas and turn the voltage and wire feed speed to max . Miller feels that this will at least give you the maximum that the machine can put out.

Can this wire be used in a MIG welder as you would use brazing rod in the oxy/acetylene process? Does this wire require any flux as with the oxy/acetylene brazing rod? Thank you.
When using the Harris Silicon Bronze MIG Welding Wire - 10# Spool 00SIB in a mig welder you will need a shielding gas of 100% argon..You do not need a flux

I need to braze steel tube into a larger cast iron part- is this the "mig-brazing" wire i keep hearing about?
MIG welding and brazing are two distinct processes and we are not aware of "mig-brazing" wire. Are you using a oxy/fuel torch or a electric MIG welder for your process?
