The Hobart® 400 amp electrode holder is designed for rods up to 5/16 inches in diameter. Rod removal and replacement is easy. Just a quarter turn of the handle with loosen the rod.

how does the cable hook to the holder

Hobart® 400 Amp Electrode Holder - Screw/Stub Type 770028 has a handle that would unscrew. Inside their is a brass block with a set screw that would allow you to connect the welding cable.
