What is the difference in Jackson helmet part numbers 46159 vs 29371?
    1 Answers
The 29371 is the part number that indicates a "box of 2" which is the way Cyberweld has purchased from Kimberly Clark- so they have been labeled as a 29371. The new part #46159 is because Kimberly Clark has now given distributors the option to purchase just 1 helmet at a time. They are the same helmet.

I know this helmet uses AAA batteries(2), but does it also have a solar cell OR soley depends on the batteries? I am torn between one of these and the wh70 bh3 (strictly solar). How much exposure to midday sunlight, for example, would the wh70 bh3 require for an hour of welding..........assuming it was completely discharged at first? thanks, Anton
    1 Answers
Great question! The Jackson Welding Helmet - Black TrueSight II Lens 29371 has solar assist but does require batteries. The solar assist will only help to make the batteries last longer- Solar assist will not actually power the helmet. Jackson also advises that the WH70 BH3 helmet requires a battery along with solar power. If you are looking specifically for a solar only helmet, Jackson recommends the JACKSON SAFETY* W40 ELEMENT* Variable ADF Welding Helmet-23282

Can you use a standard clear cover lens with this helmet
    1 Answers
Although a standard lens will fit in a Jackson Welding Helmet - Black TrueSight II Lens 29371 it should not be used as a replacement lens. There is a sealing gasket in front of the Truesight II autodarkening lens and the standard lens will not fit the gasket. Without the gasket welding flash can leak into the helmet and could cause eye damage

Can I use a standard 5.25 x 4.5 outside lens for this helmet? I'm frustrated that almost all companies that make good welding helmets won't use standard lens, hence customers have to buy expensive lens made strictly for the helmet it is a very big turn off
    1 Answers
Although a 5.25 x 4.5 outside lens will physically fit into a Jackson Welding Helmet - Black TrueSight II Auto-Dark Lens 29371 Ja ckson does not recommend using this type of outside lens in this application. The 5.25 x4.5 lens will not seal properly and you will lose the capability to use a magnifyling lens. the correct outside lens for this helmet is the Jackson Welding Helmet - TrueSight External Safety Lens 30320.

I don't have time for games, and do not want to spend lots of $$$$ on some POS from a foreign country as I already have two ADF hoods made outside the US, one has crapped out, one new in the box that I refuse to use. 1 Answers
The technology used in the Jackson Balder helmets provided the clearest view of weld arc and weld puddle of all the Jackson auto darkening lenses. The original Jackson Balder auto darkening lens did not have all features of your Jackson helmet. For example the Balder did not have a grind mode.. Jackson has now taken the Balder lens clarity technology and added it their TrueSight lenses. The new Jackson Welding Helmet - Black TrueSight II Auto-Dark Lens 29371 now has the clarity of the Balder lenses with all of the premium features of the True Sight

What I have read about this hood makes it sound very impressive. I am considering it for TIG and stick welding. Some of my TIG welding is at very low currents which has caused a problem with other helmets due to the lens being too dark, and sometimes flashing. Are there other helmets in this price range that you would recommend over this one?
    1 Answers
The Jackson Welding Helmet - Black TRUESIGHT Auto-Dark Lens 29371 should be a good helmet for tig welding. It has a tig rating of less than 5 amps. This indicates that the Truesight Auto darkening lens is sensitive enough to detect a welding arc of 5 amps or less which will cause the lens to darken. We offer several models of auto darkening helmets that are good for low amperage tig welding.. For example the Jackson Balder BH3 Auto Darkening Welding Helmet 37191 has a 3 amp tig rating. The 3M Speedglas Welding Helmet - 9100 series of auto darkening helmets has a tig rating of less than 1 amp and the Miller Digital Elite family of auto darkening helmets has tig rating of 5 amps or less..We suggest that you visit our web site and review the tig ratings and prices of these and any other helmets that you may be interested in .

In the neutral mode the view through the Jackson Welding Helmet - Black TRUESIGHT Auto-Dark Lens 29371 will be a yellow/ amber color. When auto darkening lens darkens to a weld shade the view will be a greenish color. The clarity of the view between the Miller Titanium 9400, Jackson Truesight, or Jackson Nexgen will all be very similar..If you are looking for the helmet that has the clearest view you may want to consider the Jackson Balder BH3 Auto Darkening Welding Helmet 37191. However they are slightly thinner than the Jackson mag lenses and will slide around in the Truesight mag lens holder.. This helmet is 7.9 ounces lighter than the Nexgen Shadow. How can it be less than half the weight and be strong enough? Also Jackson's sight lists special magnification lens numbers for this helmet. I contacted the Jackson rep and was told that their lens was made special for the truesight and were different than other mag lens. Can you get these lenses. I have been told the Truesight in non weld is easier to see than the Nexgen. Is this true. As you can probably tell I am older with less than perfect vision.

The Jackson Welding Helmet - Black TRUESIGHT Auto-Dark Lens 29371 is constructed with a Hydraflex material which is very flexable ,durable a lightweight and less prone to cracking than hard plastic helmets. The Trusight lens does require a thicker magnifying lens that we currently to do not offer. It appears that in the non welding mode the Trusight lens is not quite as dark as the Nexgen so it may be a little easier to see through in this mode

Good helmet but could be better.
This is a good welding helmet. It gives good visibility and allows you to see clearly while welding. My only complaint are the tension knobs on the sides of the helmet. The knobs do not stay at the position after moving the helmet up and down a couple of times and I have to retighten frequently.

    Not what I hoped
I am a TIG welder who welds pretty much 9 hours a day. I got this hood almost a year ago. At first wearing it, I felt immediately that the headgear would pull at my hair. Maybe most of these guys wear caps but for what I do, I don't need one. But I ended up wearing one anyway to prevent it from ripping more hair out... I also noticed it was a little heavy, but that was expected with the bigger field of vision. I got used to the weight but started to notice that the tabs to keep it up started wearing down and couldn't hold its weight in the up position very well. That definitely gets annoying when trying to see/ fit up parts. I thought with the 4 sensors I would be safe when welding in hard to reach spots or awkward positions but I noticed that sometimes there can be a delay. Lastly, just recently, the helmet keeps switching to dark randomly and won't reset unless I hit the ON button again. This is becoming more an issue now especially. Probably going to end up getting a new non Jackson welding helmet soon.

One of the clearest hoods I've ever set hands on, only complaint is the hood is heavy due to the lens. I've used millers, Several Jackson lenses and several other brands but this lens blows them away on clarity. No complaints!

    Waste of money
I have had 3 of these now and every one of them has given me issues. Darkens and won't lighten back up until hit power button. Shuts off and blinds you without warning. Eats up batteries in a couple weeks. Worst helmet I've ever had. Cyberweld does a great job...no complaints with the dealer....but this helmet...awful.

Not much to compare it to.
I am 6 months into school. The helmets they provide are proficient, but they recommend purchasing a helmet of your own. I saw other students go through 2 or 3 helmets in a very short time, so I waited to see. The school helmets are fairly new ADF's, but this helmet blows away the quality. The vision is incredible both in clarity and the size of the vision. I use bifocal safety glasses and this helmet allows me to tilt my head to see close and far. Other reviews I've read complained that there was no bag or extra safety shields. Jackson must have been listening because both were included in the box. Thank you for giving me that "hole-in-one" purchase.
    ProsViewing area size Clarity
ConsNot sure about the headpiece yet. Maybe because of the forward weight of the helmet itself, but I have to tighten it so much it gives me a headache after a couple of hours. Have to tighten the side clamps about every 3 or 4 times of flipping the helmet up.

    "HD" lens
I bought the truesight II to replace my old truesight. The truesight II has a blueish green color. This gives the weld puddle a super clear almost HD look. The grind torch and weld buttons are very easy to push with heavy gloves on. The shade, delay and sensitivity buttons are a little harder to push with heavy gloves on, but those are more set and forget buttons.

Great Product, Swift Processing, Even Quicker Delivery
I am old-school when it comes to all things welding; to buy equipment & accessories, you went to a brick-n-mortar store, tried it on, held it in your hand, get the feel of the product in person. Well, all of that has changed with this online purchase of the Jackson helmet. And I admit that I was familiar with Jackson's quality & advanced technology so it wasn't a shot in the dark. The 5-star rating happened because of a total online process: Website description of the product with little left to wonder, ease of ordering & finally, the logistics of the order itself. I will be a repeat customer.

This welding helmet really improved my ability to see the weld puddle. I was having trouble seeing it with a cheaper helmet i have and read the comments about this helmet and took a chance. I am really glad i purchased it. Got it on sale and was hesitant to spend the money on something i didn't actually see in person, but the reviews helped me decide.

I am very impressed with this welding helmet. I was lucky enough to hold off a week before making this purchase, and it turned out saving me $60! Cyberweld was having a sale on this particular style of helmets and it was also cheaper than any other sight I looked on. Excellent Helmet
As a non-professional welder this hood is much more than what I would typically need. Unfortunately I have a real hard time seeing the weld puddle and weld joint using other lens due to color blindness. I've struggled for 30 years with this issue. I purchased this helmet because I read that Baldor lens helped others in my situation. Visibility for me is MUCH better with this lens! Aside from my color issue - This is a real nice hood and lens combination. The electronic controls are easy to use with gloves and fully adjustable. They worked as I would expect them to. The sensitivity adjustment works great. I weld sheet metal on vehicles outside in the bright sunlight. I've struggled a lot with lens activation due to reflected sunlight. It's been a huge annoyance. This lens cured that issue which saves me a lot of time and aggravation. The large lens and visibility helps when I'm grinding or jumping around doing spot welds. I no longer have to flip the hood between welds. I also discovered that I can grind with the helmet in the weld mode with very little flickering which is nice for the quick grind. The light hood, comfortable headgear, and improved visibility has improved my welding experience tremendously. I forget I have this helmet on at times. BTW - The Cyberweld order process, pricing & shipping was excellent.

    Love the Lens
I love the Lens, I hate the headgear. It seems I am always fighting with the headgear in this thing. For the price you would think they could add a better quality headgear. The Lens I absolutely LOVE! I always loved the Gold coated lenses and this lens gives you a very similiar view. If you love the Gold lenses you will love this lens. The protective lenses not being "standard is somewhat of an inconvenience, but you just have to think ahead and purchase multiples to have on hand.

    Great hood
The truesight is the nicest hood I've seen. The headgear is comfortable, with the lightweight of the hood you can forget you have it on. The shade is a superior auburn color that makes the puddle very defined but not bright. I will never go back to a standard hood.

    Great clarity of sight.
I am a pipe welder. I had a speed glas that was flashing me when mirror welding. Bought this hood after trying one.
ProsVery clear it has the hue of a gold lens red orange. It will accept regular 4.5 x5 1/4 outer cover lenses. I took a cutting wheel and cut the viewing area out of the proprietary lens after it scratched up to keep the rubber gasket (It's built into the lens. I cut a 4.5x 5 1/4 lens down to fit inside as well. very cost effective if you're running overhead and tearing up your lenses.
ConsThe only gripe I have is the sensitivity is pretty sensitive on the lowest setting if you're to close to string lights(100w) bulb it will darken the hood.

    Nice hood
I've been welding off and on for about 30 years and i've had various hoods but i'm very happy i purchased this hood in particular. i I have only had it for about a week but i can tell you that i have used all three features at my job grind, weld, and cut and it works awesome. I tell the guys at work all the time how much are your eyes worth? You cant put a price on them so why not spend the money to protect them the best you can. This helmet has also helped with being able to see the puddle much clearer as well. I haven't had a chance to tig some stainless or aluminum but i have read some reviews that said it is flawless and the guy said he saw blue and pink colors while tiging stainless, i cant wait till i get the chance to try it out. I wish every one could get a chance to at least try the helmet and see for themselves. GREAT PRODUCT

    THIS THING IS FREAKING AWESOME!
I just did my first welds using this helmet and the difference between my old auto darkening helmet (a Hornell Speedglass that must be about 15 years old but still works perfectly) and the Jackson helmet is like the difference between night and day! The light (open) shade (claimed to be a #4 shade but seems MUCH lighter, more like a #3 or even lighter) lets in enough light that you can see your work area easily and clearly before striking the arc, even in normal shop lighting--no high intensity lighting needed. The fact that Cyberweld doesn't sell the Jackson magnifying inserts that fit perfectly is completely unimportant, as there is plenty of room for your prescription glasses if the headgear is adjusted properly. And, no more smudges on the inside lens from your nose touching it! The HUGE viewing area means that you will have no trouble seeing out of this helmet through your glasses--something that can be almost impossible when your glasses don't line up properly with the narrow slit of a view with the normal welding helmet. But the most awesome feature of this helmet is the TRUE-SIGHT; amber bandpass filter. It COMPLETELY eliminates the overpowering blue glare of the arc so you can see the weld puddle easily and clearly. The way this works is the arc is much hotter and brighter than the weld puddle, but the arc radiates much of its energy in the shorter blue wavelengths.By eliminating these blue wavelengths that come mostly from the arc, the arc and weld puddle are brought into better balance such that the light from the arc no longer overpowers the light from the weld puddle, and the weld puddle is easy to see (at least, unless you are trying to look at it directly through the arc!--but just change your line of vision slightly so you are looking directly at the weld puddle). Welding becomes awesomely easier when you can clearly see the weld puddle and the nearby seam that you're trying to weld!
ProsEasy to see through in the light (open) state. HUGE viewing works well with your glasses. TRUE-SIGHT (amber bandpass filter) really works as claimed!
ConsSimple flat inner and outer lenses would be less expensive than the lenses with molded-in ridges that the Jackson helmet uses.

nice view... but won't stay in up position... and clear custom clear lenses.
Yes, it's got the big viewing area which I love. The torch and grind functions are beautiful. The inner and outer clear lenses are custom to this hood so no employer is going to provide them. They're about $2 each... which can get expensive for that outer one... and you have to order them as no regular shop I found keeps them in stock. the head gear that attaches to the hard hat does not hold it in the up position well at all. This is extremely frustrating to me. I've read other reviews where they put off how messed up it is that I have to take my hood off every time I want to view something without my hood over my face, but words can't express how frustrating it is when I'm trying to focus on something and my hood won't stay out of the way. Is it really that hard to create a hood that stays up when you want it to? The head gear that attaches to a hard hat needs to have a better grip. It regularly fell from my head just in nodding my hood down. Eventually it fell 2 stories, though it survived... the brain now doesn't stay together properly and 3 months later it stopped going to clear. Now I have the equivalent of a solid lense for $300. I did eventually take al tool to the head gear part that cups around the lip of a hard hat. I made the inside of the grip part deeper... snd have not had my hood fall off since. I don't know why they don't make it like that to begin with... but for anyone else experiencing this problem... I'd recommend making this simple adjustment! My hood is now trash because of that sub-quality hard hat gear.
Prosnice vision... though would like to see it quick change to shade 8. The torch mode is awesome...
ConsHead gear that attaches to the hard hat needs modifying to hold properly... and it doesn't stay in the up position at all. the grind mode is a bit dark... I sometimes find myself going for a grinding shield instead of using the grind function on this hood.

Lens works well but problems with the rest.
Overall I like the hood. I really like the large buttons to switch from weld to grind to torch although I haven't used it for torching. The head band is very comfortable but doesn't seem to want to keep the hood up when you want it to. Also, the cost of having to buy the special inner and outer clear lenses is cost prohibitive. Since most contractors I work for will buy the normal large clear lenses I would give this hood five stars if it could use them. I can live with the head band not holding the hood up when you need it.

I love the lens, I don't like the helmet or the headgear. I liked it better than the miller elites I have owned, and was impressed with the durability of an OLD jackson eqc I still keep around as a back up helmet. As you can imagine, I was very disappointed when it started malfunctioning after a years use.... One quick, painless call to a very nice and helpful customer service rep had a replacement lens coming, and a call tag for the bad unit, all with no questions, hassles, or charges. Kudos!
