Can this be used to hold a drill press vise in place on the cast iron table? If I place it flat on the drill table and butt the drill vise up to a side to keep it from rotating if the bit takes too big a bite, is is strong enough to hold the vise in place?

We have discussed your question with the manufacturer. They indicate that using the Magswitch MagSquare 600 Magnetic Square 8100106 in the manner you are suggesting may or may not work.. They indicate that if the drill press vise was to catch and start spinning this would be considered a "shear" force. The Magsquare 600 would only be capable of providing a 60 lb force against the shear force.Without knowing more info such as the horsepower of the drill press , rotational speed, condition of the cast iron table etc. it is not possible to say for certain that the Magsquare 600 will work in your application

    Strong and versatile
We now have four of these that we use for holding plates of steel in position together and as stops to keep parts from sliding on a steel table as we grind on the parts. Great product. Different sizes and strengths for varying needs.
    ProsVersatile
ConsCan be a little unhandy to turn the handle to engage/disengage the magnet, but can usually be done with one hand.
