Hobart® AirForce® 40i Plasma Cutter 500576

The completely redesigned Hobart® AirForce™ 40i produces up to 40 amps of cutting power and operates on either 120 volt or 240 input. It weighs only 22 pounds, yet cuts up to 7/8 inch mild steel. The AirForce 40i comes complete with MVP™ (multi-voltage plug) technology which allows you to run off of standard 120 volt OR 240 volt input power. Voltage changeover is simple and requires no tools.

The AirForce 40i features the ergonomically designed XT40R plasma torch that boasts more flexible cables and longer plasma consumable life than previous models. The 40i requires compressed air delivery of at least 6.0 cfm @ 90 to 120 psi. It has a rated cutting capacity of 5/8 inch thick mild steel @ 60% duty cycle and a maximum cutting capacity on mild steel of 7/8 inch. Unit is compatible with engine-driven welders with at least 8 kW of generator power with a 240 volt receptacle.

  • MVP™ adapters - Allow connection to 120 or 240 V receptacles without tools choose the adapter cord with the right plug that fits the receptacle, and connect it to the power cord with the L6-30R twist lock.

  • LVC™ line voltage compensation - Provides peak performance power under variable input voltage conditions ( 15%) for steady and cleaner-ending cuts.
  • Internal gas/air filter and regulator - Controls amount of usage and flow of air or gas.
  • Starts without high frequency - Protects unit by not interfering with or damaging controls or computers.
  • Diagnostic lights - LED lights for quick troubleshooting of pressure, power and cup situations.
  • Postflow cooling circuit - Extends life of consumables and torch by cooling them with postflow air after trigger is released.
  • Automatic gouging consumable detection - Adjusts gas pressure to optimize performance, eliminating the need for a manual regulator.
  • Compatible with engine-driven welders - Complete cutting capability when powered by an engine-driven welder/generator with a 240 V receptacle of 8 kW or more.
  • Hobart 5/3/1 industrial warranty - Five-year warranty on transformers, stabilizers and main rectifiers; three years on generators, PC boards and drive systems and one year on guns (MIG, plasma and TIG torches).

      Pays for itself in savings on acetylene quickly

      First, this is a high quality machine and works just as you'll want. I got this in June '21 and have used it a LOT, paying for it within 3 months just in savings on high priced acetylene used in a gas torch. From here on out, I'm buying very little gas for cutting.

      Second, for bending, I make dashed cuts in whatever I want to bend, do the bending, then if it needs to be strengthed back, just put a quick weld across it. So the machine is good for bending, too, further saving cost of gas.

      Metal deformation is almost nil, especially for stainless and aluminum, which is a very welcome improvement over gas torch cutting.
