Smith® Toughcut™ Welding, Heating & Cutting Outfit MB55A-300

Smith® Toughcut™ MB55A-300 welding, heating and cutting outfit is a light to medium duty oxy/fuel kit that uses acetylene as the fuel gas. The MB55A comes complete with MT603 heating nozzle for preheating associated with various cutting and welding applications. Smith's slip-in cutting tips with Graf-Tite® seal provide quick change of tips without the use of tools and superior seal for longer tip life.

The MB55A-300 oxy/acetylene torch kit comes with Smith's proven in-tip gas mixing technology, which helps eliminate flash backs and increases torch life. The outfit features rugged, highly accurate 30 series regulators. Regulators, cutting attachment and torch handle are covered by Smith's True Blue® 3 year warranty. Outfit comes complete with safety and operations manual.

Features

Graf-Tite� soft seats - Resilient Graf-Tite� seat material protects tip seating areas from nicking to maintain positive seating. Requires less replacement than metal-to-metal seat designs. Compressible soft seats are practically indestructible and withstand extremely high temperatures, resulting in longer tip life.

In-tip mix - Each tip is a precision engineered mixer for combining preheat oxygen and fuel gas to attain maximum efficiency. Adds resistance to flashback.

Slip-in tip design � just hand tighten After the first tightening with a wrench, only hand tightening is required to seat the tip, saving time when changing tips. Quick and easy tip changes encourage use of right tip for the job.

Removable high-pressure seat - Allows cleaning from back of tip.

Three-tube construction - Gases are kept separated, eliminating mixing tube burnout. Our thick-wall, high-capacity stainless steel tubes provide high gas flow and superior strength.

Ease-on oxygen cutting valve - Allows smooth piercing and keyhole free starts and restarts.

Triple o-ring seal - Provides positive gas seal, and allows rotation.

Internal threads - Threads are protected from damage if the torch is dropped, eliminating costly torch repair, replacement or downtime.

Double-tube handle - Tube-within-a-tube design provides strength while reducing weight. Internal tube is silver brazed for extra protection, strength and leak resistance.

Adjustable valve resistance - Special PTFE packing provides a gas-tight seal while allowing the �drag� to be adjusted to the individual preference.

Stainless steel ball-style valves - Corrosion-resistant balls and brass seating surfaces provide gall resistance and positive, chatter-free seating.

Replaceable hose connections - Hose connections are easily replaced if damaged.

If I don't have any tanks yet, which model number should I choose?

If you are considering purchasing a Smith Welding & Cutting Outfit - Toughcut MB55A you will need to know what CGA connection type your acetylene cylinder has. The MB55A-300 outfit requires that the valve on the acetylene cylinder be a male connection know as a CGA300. The MB55A-510 requires that the valve on the acetylene cylinder be a female connection know as CGA510 connection..If you do not have an acetylene cylinder and you plan on purchasing a acetylene cylinder from local your industrial gas supplier ask them what connection they have on their acetylene cylinders so you will be able order the correct MB55A outfit. You do not need to be concerned about the oxygen cylinder because all oxygen connections are CGA 540.

The main differences between the Smith Welding & Cutting Outfit - Toughcut MB55A-300 and the Smith Welding & Cutting Outfit - Medium Duty Series 30 MBA-30300 are the welding handle and the cutting attachment. The Toughcut used the Smith CW5A welding handle and the CC509P cutting attachment.These items are covered by Smith's 3 year warranty. The MBA-30300 uses the Smith WH-100 welding handle and the MC 509 cutting attachment which are covered by Smith's lifetime warranty

You are going to need an industrial size acetylene cylinder with at least a volume of 75 cubic ft or larger. We do not offer these sizes on our site.. You will need to go to your local gas supplier and see what he has available. Your will also need to determine what style CGA co9nnection he has on his acetylene cylinders. If his cylinders are CGA 300 style you will need to order the Smith Welding & Cutting Outfit - Toughcut MB55A-300. if his cylinders are CGA 510 style you will need to order the Smith Welding & Cutting Outfit - Toughcut MB55A-510

The Smith Welding & Cutting Outfit - Toughcut MB55A-300 can be used on all sizes of oxygen cylinders and on industrial size acetylene cylinders.. It cannot be used on acetylene B or MC size cylinders

High quality set

Purchased for a new service truck. This my first Smith outfit and I like this much better than Victor. Torch has more weight which for me is better and is higher quality US made than Victor. Gauges are nice and you get a brazing and heating tip as well. I am more than pleased with this torch outfit.

This is a very affordable set for first time buyers of this type of equipment.
The only thing I don't like about the torch itself is that it doesn't come with in-built reverse flow valve check and flashback arrestor.

Nice kit, some initial quality issues

I decided to replace my cobbled together Oxy/Acy torch setup with a complete new kit. This kit had a nice selection of options with the cutting tip, the welding tip and also the rosebud as well. The kit has good instructions and was just what I expected, however there were a few issues with parts out of the package. One of the threaded fittings on the torch handle was slightly messed up and did not allow the hose to be threaded on properly. A few moments with the thread file and all was good. Also, the inline check valves were stuck closed and would not allow gas to flow. I am expecting replacements to solve this problem.

So after the few initial issues, I really like the kit and have used it many times already with very good success.
