Use indefinitely instead of flat roller

Small Century and Forney Wire welders only use a knurled roller for solid and flux core. They Never have a feeding problem. Adjust pressure so it is just tight enough that it does not slip and enjoy. Works with very little pressure.
Can have a single roller, cheap plastic drive mechanism and not have any issues ever, besides a bad liner. Not finicky or problematic. Fits ESAB 252i.
