Hobart Handler® 210 MVP MIG Welder 500553

The Hobart® Handler® 210 MVP™ MIG Welder has 210 amps of welding power in a portable case. Powerful output to handle 3/8 in. thick mild steel and enough control for 24 gauge material. The MVP (Multi-Voltage Plug) feature allows the Handler® 210 MVP to operate on either 115 Volt or 230 Volt input power.

The ease of connecting an OPTIONAL direct plug-in SpoolRunner™ spool gun expands the capability for aluminum welding. SpoolRunner™ spool gun can also be used for mild or stainless steel MIG welding applications.

Seven output voltage settings and infinite wire feed speed control make the unit easy to set and adjust for different materials, thicknesses and wires.

The Handler® 210 MVP MIG welder is recommended for running the following wires: mild or stainless steel .023-.035 in., flux cored .030-.045 in., aluminum .030-.035 in.

  • MIG (GMAW)
  • Flux Cored (FCAW) (gas and self-shielded)

    Auto body
    Metal art

  • Max 210 amps in small, portable case - Sized for transport of the unit to the job site and the power to weld 3/8 in. mild steel.
  • 7 voltage selections - Permit easier fine control of the output parameters for improved arc, less spatter, better bead appearance, excellent penetration and minimal post-weld cleanup.
  • Direct plug spool gun circuitry standard - OPTIONAL SpoolRunner 100 spool gun plugs directly into the Handler 210 MVP, no additional adapters or control boxes needed! Just remove the standard MIG gun and replace it with the SpoolRunner 100 spool gun, flip the switch on the center panel from "MIG Gun" to "Spool Gun" and you're ready to go.
  • Proven built-in wire feeder with quick-release tension lever - Provides positive feed with adjustable tension. Easy access for threading wire.
  • Replaceable, built-in contactor - Eases use and excellent safety feature. Makes the welding wire electrically "cold" when not pulling the trigger.
  • Convenient polarity changeover with tip holder - Access makes it quick and easy to change polarity when switching from solid wire to flux cored wire. Includes convenient storage holes for spare tips.
  • Quick-change, dual groove drive rolls - Easy to change from one wire diameter to another .023/.025 in. or .030-.035 in.
  • Short circuit protection - Protects the unit against current overload.
  • Self-resetting thermal overload - Protects power transformer to ensure reliability.
  • Solid-state motor protection - Protects wire feed system from overload.
  • 5/3/1 Industrial Warranty AND Technical Assistance - Five-year warranty on transformer and stabilizer; three years on electronics (drive motors, PC boards) and one year on MIG gun. Worldwide service network and 1-800-332-3281 Tech Help Line for prompt service and assistance.
  • Hobart Exclusive! Multi-voltage plug (MVP™) allows you to connect to common 115 or 230 V power receptacles without the use of any tools - simply choose the plug that fits the receptacle and connect it to the power cord.

    Comes complete with:

The Handler 210 will require a 30 amp breaker when operating on 230 volt input power. If you are operating on 115 volt input, you'll need a 20 amp wall receptacle. (you only get 140 amps max output when using 115 volt input.)

    Very nice machine
As a welder that has only used industrial type machines I was skeptical to buy this one but after owning it for three years and running a handful of wire spools through it I am impressed. This machine has a ton of power. The duty cycle has only hurt me once but even then it wasn't a big deal. I love this little machine and will probably never get rid of it. Do not be afraid to buy.

Flexible & Powerful Hobart Handler 210 MVP MIG Welder
Great ordering experience, shipped very fast! The welder was immediately put into service for a pending project and performed flawlessly! Easy to setup and get running with a setting chart on the wire feed cover. It was put to the test welding 1/4" square tubing and 1800 tacks in the first 3 days of use and it seemed to want more! It'll be used for small construction projects and wife's hobby of making metal yard art. Thanks CyberWeld!
ProsVery versatile with 115 and 230 volt input gives the Hobart Handler 210 MVP a can do attitude! It'll handle light small tacks to 1/4 inch thick square tubing with ease! Maintains a very stable arc with flux-cored gas-less wire that leaves very little slag. Very easy to change wire sizes and contact tips. Welds are good looking with -GS or -11 wire and both .030 and .035 share a great stable arc with thin or thick metals!

    Good Low End MIG Welder
Great low end MIG machine. I use this for quick tacks on 1/8 and 3/16 and when i have to weld upside down under a vehicle. Thinner stuff I TIG and thicker stuff I stick weld. I don't trust small MIG machines for good penetration. If this was my "main" or only welder I would get something with variable voltage not just voltage taps like this machine.
ConsThe ground clamp is cheap. The machine is setup out of the box for flux core. You need to change the polarity and flip over the drive wheels.

A fantastic DIY Shop welder - especially for beginners
I bought this Hobart because, though I am not a professional welder, I want good enough equipment to get results I can be satisfied with. Another important factor is my interest in having a welder that can grow with me, letting me use 230v in the event that I move to somewhere I have access to it. For the price I paid, which included shipping, I couldn't have bought another welder giving me the kind of range of operation/usage without getting a lesser quality welder. I mean, yeah, I could have bought a Lincoln, but I would have only saved $120. And it is pretty apparent that just the manufacturing quality of the Hobart enclosure for the welder's components is far superior to the Lincoln and you'd be stuck with either 110v or 230v, but not both. I did switch to a different regulator from the one provided by Hobart, but only because I am accustomed to using the HTP Flow Regulator. The hinged enclosure for the spool compartment could be articulated, so that the door doesn't need so much space to swing open.

    Great little welder
I bought this machine to use around the farm and to build various projects. I have an old Lincoln cracker box AC/DC stick welder and just got burnt out on trying to use it doing small tedious projects. I have built a hand truck style cart to haul it and argon bottle around with a box for various tools, a few little projects on thin stuff, life my father in laws truck door, BUT I really put it through its paces when I built two 4x5x6 safe rooms out of 3/16" walled 2" sqtub and 3/16" plate. It's then I pushed its thermal overload to the test, I have 15+ yrs experience welding with 3phase set up mig machines and this machine welds just as good if not better than any of those I have used, just won't do it very long before the thermal overload trips and your made to take a coke break til it cools down. I built the two safe rooms in about 94hrs of work and the machine performed excellent, can't push it hard on length of weld due to duty cycle which is fine, I know it's no industrial welder but it's not far from it. Don't be afraid of the duty cycle, it'll do better than stated and once you figure out your settings it'll lay one pretty bead.
ProsEasy set up, portable, smooth welding
ConsPortable but a tad on the heavy side, kinda loud while on but not terrible.

You gotta have one of these!!
Hobart is American made, assembled in the same building as many Miller components, so stow the "Red/Blue" pride noise. I bought a great machine at a lesser price than Blue, period. Arrived from Cyberweld (in Jersey) to CA. in five days with free shipping! There is a big plus for me. Packaging is factory, but no damage in transit (FedEx). I already had my 75/25 gas in bottle ready, so set up was all of an hour because I "actually" read the instructions.(crazy I know but Hey, this is my first welder purchase. Both voltages performed flawlessly on mild steel to 1/4" thickness. Using the Hobart solid wire, 10# spool, good stuff. Consider testing each setting to confirm wire feed speed, ea. machine is a little different. I've built Table, cart, several HD brackets and hangers. It's like a hot glue gun for steel, easy strong, works perfectly!
ProsRobust construction, made in the USA, dual voltages for use at varied locations, simple operation.
ConsWeight of the machine, near 90 lbs.

    NIce welder
The big three Hobart, Miller and Lincoln you can't go wrong with any of these welders. I like the arc of the Hobart very much, this welder works well, I upgraded the ground clamp to a brass one, also sometimes the trigger sticks a little on Hobart welders, an easy fix is by lightly sanding the sides of the red finger trigger-if this happens to you (I took my handle apart to do this). I also had this problem on the auto arc 130 I had before this bigger welder. I really like having the 110V to 220 changeability and it is well worth spending the extra money for this feature if you can afford it. The Hobarts are said to have a nice soft arc as compared to the miller and some prefer it over the miller and others. Don't worry about the 7 levels of power settings over infinite control they are plenty enough to dial in for steel welding and works very well, I use my welder for home projects and very happy with it and plan to keep it for a lifetime of usage. I bought a harbor freight cart for it which is a much cheaper option than most other carts, it works well but made a few modifications. I placed a board under it in order to be able to open the side door. I also put a board on the back to move it forward so the back of welder won't hit the gas bottle. Lastly I welded some angle iron around the front of the cart as a handle to move it around on rough ground easier. By the way this is a transformer based mig welder, different than the more modern transistor based welders, old school works very well and hobart knows how to make a welder that gives a good ark and lay down the metal in a pretty bead with welder skill. This welder is heavy around 80 pounds so you don't want to move it around by hand very much but it is manageable.
Pros110 or 220 Very nice soft arc, Hobart knows how to make a welder
ConsIf you need more portability may want a transited based welder which is lighter, but may give up the nice softer arc and the long term durability may be different.

Unit arrived today after a very painless ordering process. They had the best price i could find with free shipping. I actually ordered this and a miller plasma cutter. The welder arrived today and couldnt wait to get home to fire it up. I hooked everything up and fan would come on but unit would not feed because feed motor would not turn. Of course all the service departments and help lines were closed. I read on several forums that the white plug under the cover can come loose in shipping causing feed motor not to operate. This was the case and my welder is up and running.I will update this review once its not so late and i can start laying down a bead.
You will not regreat ordering from cyberweld. Unit came fast via fedex. Only down side is if you work durring the day fedex requires signiture and they will never leave it for you. I had shipped to my office.
Im giving 4 stars just because of the hassle of having to connect the connector.

One of three came DOA and Cyberweld told us to contact manufacturer
We aren't looking for more work to do. We want Cyberweld to swap out the dead unit and they can work it out with the manufacturer. Since we bought 3 units and 2 work just fine, I think we can safely rule us as an issue. We own 3 others as well (also bought from Cyerweld). Very annoying. We don't treat our customers that way at magnalight.com.
    ProsFree Shipping
ConsWon't take care of a DOA product. They want us to struggle with the manufacturer, deal with the shipping, etc. We just want 3 units that work. We don't have the extra time to fight with Hobart. Cyberweld made the money, let them cover the expense of the fight.

I purchased the 210 for my shop based on the material ratings. I was mildly concerned about the lower duty cycle of the small machines, as I've only ever used full sized Miller welders before. I was impressed. My first real test was welding up two heavy table bases from 3/16" wall 3" square tubing. It tacked well, and had no trouble at all welding the whole thing up. I cranked it up to affix the tubing to some 3/4 plate and it bit in well.
My unit came with a heavy steel ground clamp, not the cheap sheet metal clamps some have mentioned. It's not a heavy cast bronze, but it's plenty sturdy. Overall, I am very pleased with the Hobart 210. Short of heavy production welding, i see no reason to look further.
